How Long Should You Stay in Your First Job?

A good rule of thumb is 12–24 months. That's usually enough time to build real experience, learn valuable skills, and show future employers you can stick with a role.

Leave sooner if the job is toxic, you're not learning anything, or you have a clearly better opportunity. Stay longer if you're still growing, getting promoted, or building skills that will help your next move.

Your first job is a stepping stone, not a lifetime commitment.
