I think the biggest thing is to give kids a safe home where they can ask questions, make mistakes, and talk without being laughed at.
Teach them basic life skills early. Let them clean up, handle small amounts of money, make simple choices, and solve little problems themselves. Being useful builds confidence.
Also, do not make every part of childhood about grades or future success. Let them play, get bored, have hobbies, and spend time with family. Learning how to enjoy life is also a skill.
And maybe the most important one: show them that mistakes are normal. A child who is not afraid to fail will usually be more willing to try.
